An intense day of random pairs at the Welsh Harp

After a few years lost due to Covid it was great to see so many sailors back on the water for the Castaways Cup. There was a great turnout of alumni and students with a total of 14 pairs from the Imperial, ULU, and Castaways Sailing Clubs.

The racing got off to a great start with first team sailors from multiple generations and universities all battling in the first match up. As it often is with random pairs team racing the racing was intense and hard fought leading to a few ‘spectacular’ gybe backs. After 14 races for each pair, only two wins split the top 6. However, with a record of 10 wins and 4 loses, the highest of any pair, the Castaway’s Cup went to Matt and Laura!

A special thanks to Wembley and Welsh Harp Sailing Club for letting us organize the event. Also, to Imperial SC and ULU SC for letting us use their boats and lending us a few helpful volunteers.
