Castaways Revival and the Autumn Newsletter

As the alumni association tries to get back on its feet after a couple years of lower activity, we have been very glad to see the engagement of both old and new Castaways. Particularly the words of encouragement by previous Castaways committee members has been incredibly motivating as we enter this new phase with the association.
Our current committee, consisting of 5 fresh(ish) university graduates from UCL and Imperial, is working hard to re-establish the association and expand on the "bare-bones" role it had over the past few years. Our first steps regarding this have been reclaiming our website (which as you might see, we have managed successfully), and setting up a bank account. Progress on the second is well underway, and we hope to give a further update on this shortly.
In terms of the plans this year: as is (recent) tradition, we will be organising the two usual Christmas and Summer events. The racing side will be organised by the universities (supported by Castaways), with Imperial hosting the Castaways Christmas Regatta at Queen Mary Sailing Club on the 6th of December, and UCL hosting the Castaways Cup in the summer at Welsh Harp Sailing Club on the 13th of June. Both events are random pairs team racing, and will be followed by a dinner after. More information can be found on the events page here.
We're excited to build on these two events with more regular engagement both between alumni, and between alumni and students. Plans are in the making for Castaways x University training days, with Firefly team racing on the cards. Wind permitting, we are also hoping to organise a match-racing session on the Sonars at Queen Mary Sailing Club. The aim is to keep alumni, students, and recent graduates racing together.
